Score another one for the home team… The promise of another “top quality” restaurant choice in Lake Mary is about to be fulfilled… tomorrow (November 13th) Shula’s 347 Grill will be opening it’s doors in Colonial TownPark. Located on the ground floor of the new Westin Hotel, also opening for business tomorrow, Shula’s 347 Grill is sure to attract local and visiting sports fans & steak lovers to it’s laid back yet refined atmosphere.
I have to confess that I love football and even though I grew up in the Seattle area, I have been a Dolphins fan since I moved to Central Florida 24 years ago, when the only Florida team was the Dolphins and in my mind still is. I’m very excited that the Shula organization has chosen Lake Mary as their new home, their reputation for a quality dinning experience is a welcome addition to our community.
23rd Annual Lake Mary Arts Festival November 7 & 8, 2009
Lake Mary couldn’t ask for a better weekend to host the 2009 Arts Festival at Oval Park. The weather should be fantastic and help make this event a “must” in your weekend plan. There is something for everyone; a children’s area, classic car show, crafts, jewelry, fine art, photography and more.
I like to kick off my Christmas Shopping here and look for unique gifts for friends and family. Want to make a day of it? There are great restaurants in the area to sit outside at and enjoy lunch and maybe even a cocktail… I’m going to head over to Colonial TownPark for a quick bite myself and an awesome Bloody Mary at Dexter’s – if I don’t see a Funnel Cake with my name on it at the Arts Festival first.
Visit the 2nd Annual Lake Mary Health Extravaganza at the Lake Mary Events. I’ll be stopping by tomorrow for my own bone density testing and blood pressure check. This is a free event for the community, an opportunity to meet your neighbors and local health professionals. I hope to see you there.

I’ve lived in Lake Mary for the past 15 years and I’ve always said that it’s a great place to live and I’ve been proud that CNN / Money Magazine agreed in 2007, 2008 and now 2009…
Many people move to Lake Mary, Florida for the outstanding Seminole County Schools, the close proximity to Orlando and the short drive to area theme parks and beaches.
But, you will quickly see in this video why Lake Mary is starting to earn a new reputation as the town to retire in.
Free e-Updates from the City of Lake Mary, Florida
The City of Lake Mary is offering a FREE service to area residents to stay informed of local developments including:
Missing Persons or Children Alerts
Traffic Alerts
Local Emergencies (Hurricane, Tornadoes, etc.)
Boil Water Alerts
Street Closures
This is a very valuable service from the City of Lake Mary, I’ve already signed up… Now if I can only get them to start using Twitter my life would be complete!
The City of Lake Mary last week presented their revised Downtown Development plan to area residents. The plan encompasses a significant area of land around City Hall and will be eventually determined by the proposed light rail system to Orlando.
The proposed plan was met by approval and opposition of area residents (some, who’s homes currently occupy part of the development district are concerned about their future and when or if they will be approached to move).
Overall [I think] the development which includes commercial, residential, retail and recreational improvements will help evolve Lake Mary into an even more vibrant community and improve the quality of life of those who call Lake Mary home.
The plan, with an expected development window of 15 to 20 years is far from set in stone. The City will need the help of private investors to make this dream a reality.
I was very excited to hear that Lake Mary High School is going to finally be getting their swimming pool. Even in the midst of budget cutbacks and statewide school funding woes, last night the Seminole County School board approved the long awaited Olympic size swimming pool for Lake Mary High School.
The pool is to be used by Lake Mary High School’s swim team and the public. The pool has been planned for years and was tabled by Superintendent Bill Vogel six months ago due to budget concerns and even though he recommended to shelve the project indefinitely last night the board agreed to move forward.
The site for the new pool is to be donated by the Seminole County commission along with $1.2 million in cash. The City of Lake Mary is also participating with a contribution of $300,000. The High School Booster club is contributing towards construction and annual maintenance. Seminole County Schools will be providing funds for the construction fo the changing rooms and $50,000 a year towards the upkeep.
Lake Mary was recently voted the 4th best place to live in the U.S. and the#1 in the South by CNN/Money… Community Development including the Events Center, Dog Park, Splash Park and swimming pool for the High School could just be what it takes to make it to #1.
