It’s been more than 10 years, maybe even close to 20 years since I visited Big Tree Park in Longwood. Big Tree Park is located between Ronald Reagan Blvd [CR 427] and 17-92 on General Hutchinson Parkway – Click here for directions and a map. The park is free to the public and open every day until dusk. There are some covered picnic shelters and a playground, but the main draw is The Big Trees.
After a short 5 minute walk down the boardwalk, you will arrive at the viewing area for these mammoth trees.
The photos just don’t do them justice…. they really are larger than life and reminents of what must have been a remarkable forrest of trees that soared to amazing heights over two and three thousand years ago. Now protected and visited by local school children, the two remaining “big trees” are just a sample of what was once “Old Florida” looked like.
If you have never made the time to visit Big Tree Park or if you are looking for a chance to get outdoors and take a break from high tech gadgetry, visit Big Tree Park in Longwood. It’s worth the time.
